It is a well known fact that adequate nutrition is vital for the normal growth and development of infants  and children. Balanced and healthy diet is important for children to maintain healthy weight, prevent malnutrition and aids brain and bone development.  Although nutrition is also considered crucial in treatment of various acute as well as chronic childhood diseases and disorders through dietary modification, it is still believed to play a supportive role or second line of treatment  to medical intervention. 

Over the last 15 years, specific and specialized diet therapies based on novel nutrition principles have been successfully documented in the Indian context as principal therapies in the treatment/ management of complex disorders. 

Some of the examples are - ketogenic diet / atkin's diet and Low glycemic index diet for treatment of epilepsy. emerging evidence of ketogenic diet in management of GSd type III, evidence of GFCF diets in managing Autism etc. Emerging data on nutrigenomics and probiotics in disease management and treatment; understanding gut microbiota for specific alterations in the diets etc. Ms Agarwal presents an overview of some novel diet therapy trials and publications from Indian setting.
